Our staff

All our senior staff are qualified level 3 in childcare and education and our nursery assistants are level 2. Some of our junior staff are training to level 2 at present. Our nursery manager at Chesham is qualified to level 7 and has a degree, two teaching certificates and a diploma in nursery management as well as a psychology and counselling qualification. She si also the designated safeguarding officer and SENCo. We find it invaluable to train our own staff, as this way we ensure continuity of care for children and familiarity for our parents. There are great career opportunities within our Nurseries and we always encourage internal applications first.

Career opportunities

Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries are committed to providing great career opportunities for its entire staff. We are very keen to ensure the majority of staff participate in training at all levels. Whether you have had experience in child care previously or if you are joining us straight from school or another career, we will do all we can to support you in your training needs. We have a resident NVQ assessor who will assist all students with any elements of the Level 2, 3 or 4 courses.

Naturally not everybody wants to pursue a dedicated training course and we appreciate that some may just want to work with children. We will ensure that First Aid and Food Hygiene courses are regularly available to you.

Our policy is always to recruit and/or promote internally if at all possible. We want to offer diverse career opportunities to all staff that are seeking them. Whether it is your goal to become a Senior Nursery Nurse, a Nursery Manager, an Educational Co-ordinator or an Area Manager, wherever we can we will assist you in achieving that goal.

However as a rapidly expanding business we are always looking for quality staff for our existing Nurseries. See our Current Vacancies below.

Nursery facilities

Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery is conveniently located in Chesham Town Centre, next door to Thomas Harding School. The nursery is set in a converted building with facilities for children aged from three months to five years. There are five well equipped areas for Babies, Tweenies, Tweenies 2, Toddlers and Pre-School. Both outside play areas are equipped with the latest impact resistant floor surface to ensure peace of mind when the inevitable tumbles occur.

Monkey Puzzle serves organic foods (where possible) to the children and all food is freshly prepared on site. Monkey Puzzle is conveniently located close to Chesham Train Station and the Metropolitan Train Line into London. Our opening hours are designed to appeal to most of our customers.

The Nursery is split into four age groups:

· Babies

Our babies benefit from an open plan day room which is well equipped with the latest equipment to stimulate the babies senses during their formative months. An attractive relaxing separate dedicated sleep room has space for up to six babies. In addition the babies have their own dedicated changing facilities, wet kitchen and age appropriate outside play area. Babies and Tweenies go for a walk most days weather permitting.

· Tweenies and Tweenies 2

The Tweenies room focuses on the needs of babies once they become mobile. Again, a dedicated well appointed room with high quality equipment is provided for the Tweenies to follow the ‘birth to three matters’ framework which encourages learning through play. Within their room there are several areas including a cosy area where Tweenies are read stories, sand and water play, a soft block, ball pool and climbing frame area for the children to develop their physical skills, a construction area to develop coordination and a ‘messy area’ for painting and sensorial play.

Our Tweenies 2 room focuses on the needs of children aged approximately 18 months to 2 years with a wide range of age appropriate equipment and resources. Throughout the sessions we enjoy a lot of messy and sesnorial play both inside and outside as well as creative, physical, social and emotional, language and literacy and mathematical learning and development.

· Toddlers

Our Toddler room focuses on children aged two to three years where we still follow the ‘birth to three matters’ framework and the focus is still on learning and developing through play. Our toddler room has creative areas, a reading corner, circle time and a home corner areas. As this is also the time when the majority of children start potty training, the toddler room is equipped with it own age appropriate childrens’ toilet facility, encouraging independence. Our Toddlers also benefit from their own well equipped outside play area fitted with impact flooring.

· Pre-School

Our Pre-School children follow the ‘early years foundation stage’ preparing them for their eventual move to school. This is a far more structured routine, with children working in small groups and learning to concentrate for longer periods of time. They also become far more independent, pouring their own drinks, serving their own food, laying the table and learning how to use a computer. Topics covered are based on the following six areas of learning: physical development, personal, social and emotional development, language and literacy, creative development, knowledge and understanding of the world and mathematics. Pre-Schoolers have their own fully accessible, brightly decorated children’s toilets and well a equipped age appropiate outside play area.

Curriculum at the nursery

All children at Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries are encouraged to learn through play. Our Curriculum covers all the key areas of learning linked to the EYFS and is designed to meet the needs of the children at each individual Nursery. We enjoy a lot of messy and sensorial play both inside and out as well as creative, social and emotional, physical and mathematical learning and development.

Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries has a dedicated Educational Co-ordinator to help each Pre School leader devise their curriculum plans and records according to the needs of the children attending. Long, medium and short term plans are all displayed in each of the rooms along with details of all our topics which will be covered in the coming months.

We keep detailed records on the development of all children attending Nursery and these are available to be viewed and discussed at any time by parents. We always encourage parents to add details of their child’s experiences and progress from outside nursery to help keep these development records accurate.

Once in our Pre School room, all children are entitled to FFE 3 year old government funding. This is part of the Government initiative to provide all 3 and 4 year olds with free nursery sessions. We are also part of the governments 2 year old funded pilot scheme for vulnerable families. Please speak to your Monkey Puzzle Manager for further details and amounts.

We have a waiting list, so early registration is recommended.
